Formed in 2007, Pursuer, are an outfit set to destroy in Sweden's thrash scene.
Known for their melodic death metal, Sweden have come along way since early days of
creating such bands on a grand scale. Now, its time for thrash! Influenced from
the American Bay area thrash movement in the 80’s these hard thrashing newcomers
come out with their debut demo “The Great Stupidity”. It starts with the explosive song
‘Fall of the worlds’ which mixes fast riffing, simple but effective drumming and
clear aggressive vocals from co-founder Martin. Throughout the song Vio-lence, Forbidden
and some Overkill can be heard within. Its only when it comes to the slow melodic song of
‘Rise of the worlds’ that a Kreator-ish European style of thrash comes into the frame with
an early Metallica vocal style (think late 80’s). This leading on to excellent drumwork,
influential lyrics and uplifting riffs which round up the song beautifully.
On with the title track of the demo and back to explosive thrash the 80’s way, this song
really involves speed metal some catchy basslines (think Post Mortem (UK)), gang shouts
backing up the aggressive nature of the song like legendary Testament and Exodus do.
Overall, Pursuer, is one for the future. Aggressive, harsh and fast thrash with melodic,
clean and uplifting influences this is really a good demo. It only can get better for
the young band with the right progression and label to sign them up for their eagerly awaiting debut.
